Vasser responded to Binotto`s statement about Hamilton. Sauber manager Mattia Binotto, who formerly led the Ferrari team, said in a recent interview with the Italian press that if he were Ferrari, he would not have invited Hamilton to the team:
I would not have taken him to the team. But yes, Hamilton himself made a good choice by deciding to make such a transition, I agree with his decision. Ferrari had other drivers in mind. And if Charles Leclerc is considered the main talent in the team, then it seems to me that we should try to lead him to the ultimate goal (to win the championship).
In turn, the current head of Ferrari, Frederic Vasseur, who previously worked at Sauber, advised Binotto and other leaders to focus on their teams:
I`m not sure that Lewis Hamilton would agree to move to Sauber (laughs). But in general, I am very glad that so many people have free time to comment on the choices we have made. Personally, I am focused on my work at Ferrari. Let`s just say that when I was at Sauber, I didn`t talk about Ferrari.
Hamilton was in a difficult situation, his long collaboration with Mercedes was coming to an end, and there was some disappointment. So he knew right away that he was in for a difficult season.
